Freedom Riders is a look at the evolution of the sport, from its days as an activity reserved for the few who rebelled against the spandex clad status-quo, to the multi-million dollar mainstream sport that it is today. The Freedom Riders story follows the people and events of downhill mountain biking, from its infancy to the phenomenon that it is today. The high-definition film highlights the explosion of downhill riding and the subsequent growth of trail building across North America, as well as a group of renegade downhill mountain bikers who let nothing stand between them and gravity. We follow these individuals from the early days of exploration and innovation, to the implementation of the first downhill specific trail system in Forest Service history. Beginning with conflict and clandestine trail building, these riders eventually gain acceptance and form a collaborative relationship with the National Forest Service.
